History Repeat

The book is thick, old and dusty. I turn each page reverently.

“This is so interesting. The whole history of life. Where we are in the whole space time continuum. I want to know more. Where is that other book?”

“I don’t get it”.

“What’s not to get?”

“The whole idea about history. It’s so boring. A bunch of people living and dying. Dates. Places. Wars. Rumors of wars. So what.” George pushed the book away from me.

I pulled the book back. “Are you really that dense? This is good stuff. You need to know all this. It’s who we are, where we’ve been. And where we’re going.”

“I’m going to the sub shop. I’m hungry. That’s the history of today. That’s all I need to know, thank you very much.” George stood, walked away.

Churchill once said “...those who fail to learn from history are condemned to repeat it.”

It was going to repeat, I just knew it. It’d happened so many times before. I moaned as I anticipated the time warp.

That book is well used, thick, old and dusty. Each page I turn reverently.

“You know, George, this is so interesting. The whole history of life. Where we are in the whole space-time continuum. I want to know more. Where is that other book?”

And of course, he says, “I don’t get it”.
