When COVID-19 was at its worse, a mask or face-covering was recommended. Now we need N95s. |
An op-ed article for consideration. When COVID-19 sent America and the world in a tail-spin March 2020, we were encouraged to wear masks or any face covering available. Yes, N95s and Kn95 were considered the best, but the main objective was to cover the mouth and nose. Remember, people were dying in the numbers daily. Then came the Delta variant, and masks or some kind of face-covering were still being stated as a primary deterrent for COVID-19 and the Delta variant. In marches, Omicron stated to be more contagious but less severe and less deadly. What is our government telling us now, get out there and BUY N95 or KN95s to protect ourselves from, according to them, a milder form of COVID? Just me -- if COVID-19 was the killer followed by Delta, would we have been wearing the N95s and the KN95s back then? Another question that keeps popping up in my mind -- shouldn't our government have supplied every household with masks back in 2020, considering the deadliness of COVID-19 and the Delta strain? Now, they want to send us N95s and KN95s? WHY? My mother used to say, "something in the milk ain't clean!" What they are telling us and what they are doing just does not add up. Then they wonder why the public is 1) confused, 2) doesn't believe them, and 3) thinks that they are talking out of both sides of their mouths! I will continue to wear a mask outside, in public places, and anywhere there is more than one other person. I will continue to social distance and sanitize my hands when I can't wash them. However, I will NOT rush out and buy a boatload of N95s or KN95s so that I can read a year from now how many more billionaires we have made out of the pandemic. My congressional people, Senator Chris Van Hollen, Senator Ben Cardin, Congressman Anthony Brown, and the rest of the Maryland congressional delegation should be ashamed of themselves for not doing a better job of representing and protecting Marylanders. In fact, the entire CONGRESS, the PRESIDENT, and VICE PRESIDENT should be ashamed of themselves and how they are handling this pandemic, and how they are treating the AMERICAN PEOPLE! Do I believe there is a pandemic? Yes -- how it got started, who is the blame, etc., is at this moment in time irrelevant! How we get out of this pandemic and save the lives of the American people is critical and necessary. Slinging mud, calling names, lying, and pointing fingers will not end this crisis or make America stronger. I, for one, have had enough and firmly believe that our current leadership needs to lead, follow, or get out of the way! In the meantime, those of us on the outside looking in, PLEASE use good common sense (I know, common sense is not common), and do what you can do to protect you and yours. This is probably going to get worse before it gets better. |
