Once upon a time

How could it be they met in such unusual circumstances? She, just a girl on vacation from a far away land. Yet their eyes met and both realised in an instant this wasn’t their first encounter. Neither had it been in this life, but in another land and time. A time before either had even been born.
A smile passed her lips, a smile he returned with one of recognition. They both knew it couldn’t be true. How could it be? But when he took her hand, they remembered that time, that place in the mountains so long, long ago.
