I Am Still Here

You mentally, verbally, and physically

abused me when you assumed I was weak

tried to lower my self-esteem

by quieting me every time I would

speak


You could not break me


Every step I took forward

You tried to hold me back

Telling me I was nothing without you

Thinking that would make my self-worth lack


You could not break me


Disrespectful on so many levels

trying to use force to bind me

all the time, not knowing, that is impossible

I am a child of God, The Almighty


You could not break me


Your smooth and intoxicating way

A disguise that, for a long time,

caused me to stay

it took me years to truly awake

to see, that this was not the path that God intended

for me to take



With the grace of God

I was pulled from the fire

feeling blessed that your toxic love

And approval

I no longer desire


I am still here...You did not break me
