Short poem describing the end of the holiday season.
Early January 2023{/b}

Taking down the holiday tree
Putting the ornaments away;
The house feels bare, and cold
As the falling snow.

Season’s festivities are over,
Treats are nearly gone; and the pounds
Taking residence under winter clothes
May stay until June.

Woe is the season of short frozen days
Let’s hibernate like a squirrel or bunny
Hoping to stay warm until
Spring sunshine appears.

Winter on the northern plains
Is not a season for the frail; it
Takes hearty bodies and sane minds
To greet the days with gladness.
