Tornado Drill

"We hear the ROAR as we all get under our desks!" exclaimed my 3rd grade teacher as she tried to make the tornado drill as realistic as possible. Dutifully, we all got down on the floor and crawled under our desks.

Now, as an adult, I have two thoughts on this.

         1. Who actually thought those flimsy desks would save us if the roof of the school caved in or the tornado just swept us away?

         2. I have a better appreciation for the position my teacher was in as she tried to do something that would make children "feel" safe even though she probably knew it would be of little help.
