I Am a Pair of Eyes

I am a pair of eyes
Fixed on the blue-gray walls
As my mouth who is
Not me speaks
and speaks and speaks
of things long past and double
Buried.

I am a pair of eyes
I watch and I assess
Tears well up hot
But they are not mine
My mouth trembles as she
Speaks around lumps in my
Throat.

I am a pair of eyes
Watching my hands fold
And unfold a tissue
Into squares and squares
She laughs hysterical
Obnoxious snorting from my
Lips.

I am a pair of eyes
I am always fine
She cowers in the safe
Dark spaces I weave for her
Behind my breast sometimes
Peaking out through my
Teeth.
