A poem reflecting on my choices.
Children
I had mine too young.
I was a child with children.
I looked fourteen at twenty.
People mistook me for a sister.
I could have done it differently.
But had that been the case,
I wouldn’t have had the
honor of living in disgrace.
I let them yell those.
wicked things
because
they were all true.
I pulled three from
the Universe,
and that is how
I knew.
I wanted love
more than anything.
And I was willing to
pay the price.
And so, I had them selfishly.
You might not think it’s nice.
Nightmares filled my
dreamtime space.
I needed to take care.
My greed for love
personally, against
a worldwide scale
was something I must
recognize and be responsible for
and so my line to motherhood
was sealed forever more.
