A short story about the memories mingled in with the Christmas season. |
''Let's go open the presents.'' My sister Anna was pulling at my sleeve, I was still not awake, only half way. I looked at the time it was 5 o'clock am. I groaned in protest, she was this ball of energy, for a four year old, and all I wanted to do was pull my head over the covers. Then she wouldn't let go of me, being persistent and all, it reminded me of when I was that age, doing the exact same thing. ''It's too early.'' There wasn't any way I was going to do this, and not at this ungodly hour. Then Anna wouldn't leave me alone. She kept tugging me until I thought she was going to pull my sleeve of and my arm with it. She didn't really give me any choice. ''Look Santa came!'' I wanted to tell her no way he couldn't have, that he was still traveling all around the world. Then when I looked at her sweet young face. I couldn't I was just as excited about Santa Clause as she was, so I would play along with her. I got down on my hands and knees right there under the tree, and I found a present that said from Santa. We weren't supposed to open it up, not until everybody was awake. I wasn't setting a good example for Anna, except we were having fun. ''It's only one present!'' Well she did have me there, just one I agreed with her, and then we would go back up to bed. Anna shook her head going along with me, hoping that this was actually going to happen. ''Okay, just one.'' My Anna clapped her hands with glee, and I got into it, shaking the present, I took out another one, that said Anna's name on it. ''Look there's another one from Santa, oh please let's open it.'' Anna had a good way of convincing me, and I went along with it. I found another one with my name on it, and we both opened it at the same time. Before we knew it we had them all opened. All the one's from Santa I mean, we were so elated, we got caught up in the moment of things. I looked at Anna, and she looked at me with eyes wide like saucers. We would be in big trouble, we would get a scolding, and sent to bed without breakfast! ''Oh no!'' There wasn't any time to put them back under the tree, and then I heard a voice, sounding just like my mom. I knew we were going to get a lecture, and I was bracing myself for one. ''Oh yes!'' Then she walked right up to us and looked at the tree, she got down on her knees, taking out a bright red parcel, with a gold bow. ''Then we watched her open it!'' Santa hadn't forgotten, Anna and I danced around we were jovial with the Christmas magic. Then our mom joined us and we sang Christmas Carol's, while we danced around, she kissed both of us on the cheeks. ''Merry Christmas!'' My mom said with tears in her eyes, except they were happy tears, and I knew this was going to be the best Christmas ever. ''I knew Santa was here!'' Anna wanted to tell us she had seen Santa, and I put my finger to my lips, to quiet her. Then I heard bells in the distance, they sounded like Santa's, it was the magic, or should I say the wish that I desire, because it was pure blissful magic. It made me believe in Santa all over again, and I could clearly hear him in my head, saying. HO! HO! Merry Christmas!'' |
