Blue Blood


A Police officer once, it is forever
There is a bond that forms, is firm
Camaraderie even if tears flow like a river
An unspoken unity when all is grim


Face-off riots, thousands hyped in a frenzy
Many armed to the teeth and petrol bombs
A throng strong, overrun in their immense sea
A blue line of defence with sweaty palms


Searching for perpetrators in clustered shocks
Fear mounts for the unseen ambush attacks
The odds mount against the men in blue, in stacks
A shot in the dark, my brothers body slack


In this brotherhood of blue blood to defend
To protect and serve you, they are sworn
Many don't care whether their lives end
The death of a brother leaves their hearts torn


The laws so written, to defend is a crime
Instead of honour, they become the accused
Their fears and blood, the same as yours and mine
Blue bloods lives for you, are used and abused


When a blue blood dies in the line of duty
Old and new, their souls with sorrow infused
In their hearts, to each other sworn fealty
A bond of friendship in their blood suffused
