Watching a mother slip away
A New Year, and a whole new you
Is what they said, but who really knew

That when that Valentine blew in
The Reese heart still makes me grin

Then the Shamrocks rolled on by
That green beer did make me cry

And now it’s Bunny Hopping Time
I wish I had a glass of wine

To toast my mother - a failing mind
Damn Alzheimers is unkind

My father tries, I know it’s hard
To watch her wander ‘round the yard

The fireworks so pretty and bright
Light up the sky on the fourth night

I need a friend to rant and rave
To wipe away the tears I gave

Now off to work, no rest for me
A business owner I must be

It’s costume time, I get to muse
Watching quietly, she has the blues

I hope that it’s a Thankful Day
Mom and Kaia get to play

The seasons' colorful displays
Her eyes are now an empty gaze
