Summer Solstice

A scorching summer solstice roasts,
Like anger in a viper's strike,
Fangs of furious rays that fry,
When venom and sun act alike.

Sunshine seething attitude,
Amid degrees of fever bake,
Dog days cook up Earth's parade,
Leaves burnt out masses in the wake.

Humid air like steeping tea,
Steams the glade with vigorous heat,
Energy in the tropics churn,
When flames of sun and water meet.

The longest day may chafe one's skin,
Midsummer necessitates relief,
A pond, lake, or usable pool,
Vacations north to stay one's grief.

Torrid summer solstice rites,
An annual ritual of dread and ease,
To suffer in life's unbearable smelt,
Or bask in gifts intent to please.
