As the palm trees swayed the calico cat
weaved between her new mama's legs. She needed
a new servant, some food, some water, a place
to lay peacefully as palm trees swayed.
And the winds blew and the palm trees knelt, but
never lost dignity, never gave up.
Like the flock of birds stuck in the eye of the storm,
unable to land, as winds relentlessly blew.
So, Milton's lost calico sought a soft spot,
a box on the patio, out of the wind,
and out of the rain, free to leave when she deigned,
Uncle Milty's stray cat, her new name Millie.
And the tall palms swayed to the song of the wind,
as soft mews now commended her servant,
as birds landed far from their home when gusts
ceased to howl and the palm trees now stood proudly.
