It's a poem about how every work place says they are Equal Opportunity, but they are not
In the office towers, where bright lights gleam,
They promise the world, yet it's not what it seems.
"Equal Opportunity," they proudly declare,
But walls are built high, with judgement laid bare.
How can they declare they give everyone a chance?
When they glance at my clothes and dismiss my dance?
Backgrounds of silver or shadows of gold,
Judge me by my heart, not the tale that I told.
A smile and a handshake, all part of the play,
Beneath all the pleasantries, bias holds sway.
In interviews whispered, with questions so slight,
They measure my worth by the color of light.
We're more than our labels, more than our past,
In unity forged, we could rise up at last.
A tapestry woven of voices and dreams,
So tear down the mirrors, shatter those beams.
In the shadows we gather, together we'll stand,
Equal in vision, United in hand.
So how can they claim to give everyone a chance?
When they glance at our clothes and dismiss our dance?
With backgrounds of silver or shadows of gold,
Please judge us by our hearts, not the past stories we told.
