short poem - 105 words

I wasn't in denial
it only looked that way
when he was walking out the door
and I was begging him to stay

the space between us grew and grew
long before he left
silence changed from peaceful to weighty
I knew we were effed

we met as magnets do
drawn together with velocity
inseparable and intertwined
love with ferocity

it wasn't just the two of us
in fact, there were four
he was taking two dogs
as he walked out the door

yes I begged him to stay
in a state of frenzy
not denial of the breakup
but wanting the animals with me
