This is the work-in-progress second chapter of With Masked Eyes. |
ꉓꃅꍏꉣ꓄ꍟꋪ 2 It was raining, raining like the world was being flooded. Small puddles quickly turned to small ponds. I soon came along a small village, or market, I guess. It was flooded with people, even in this kind of weather. The place was for people like me. There was a florist I saw that created silver flowers from his hands! This was my new home, for now, at least.. But I knew it wouldn't last forever. My secret wouldn’t stay a secret. ᖶᕼᘿᖻ ᗩᖇᘿ ᕼᘿᖇᘿ. Stay quiet, stay secret. I learned that a long time ago, when my wife, Dawn, was taken by his men. “Shhhh!” I whispered to my son, CrowSound. He was like me, but his eyes were covered. He had the voice of a crow, hence his name. He has my horns, horns that twisted into a beautiful spiral. He had his mother's fur, though, a golden color. I heard the footsteps of the corrupt soldiers marching around my house, searching for us. I looked through the floorboards and saw somebody I wished I’d never see again. He had a mask over his face, hiding those burns that my mother gave him. He was the reason she was hanged. It was my father, Aetherion. “Find them! And I want them alive!” He yelled, ordering his men around, searching every crevice in my house, looking for us. I heard the creak of the trapdoor open. Oh no, I thought, too late. The soldiers grabbed me and my son, and we struggled, kicking and trying to bite, but neither of us could escape. “Sir! We found them!” The one holding me said, forcing me and my son to my father. “Ah, son, after all this time you still have that scar. . .” He said, staring at that long scar over my left eye, the one he gave me, the one that made me go blind in that eye. “And, you have a son now! Oh, my grandson, how great!” He grinned with that evil look on his face. He slowly walked over to CrowSound, who was struggling, and looked at my father in fear. “No Need to fear me, grandson.” He said, his talon reaching towards CrowSound’s face, who bit one of his claws off. “Damn you, you are not grandfather, or father! You are not family!” CrowSound yelled. Aetherion grabbed CrowSound with a force that made him shut up. Aetherion just chuckled. “Weak.” He said, shoving CrowSound to the ground. He unholstered his gun, I don’t know what kind, but it had multiple different engravings on it. “I think you are unfit for this world, young bird.” He pointed his gun at him . . . . . . But then, a bullet whizzed past my head, hitting Aetherion in his right arm, and going straight through, hitting him in the other arm. Time seemed to slow when I saw the bullet. I saw that it was extremely sharp, as if it could cut even titanium. “Aaargh!” He groaned in pain as he dropped his gun, which fired then it hit the ground, nearly shooting CrowSound in the leg. I felt the soldier behind me, the one holding me still go limp, as if he was shot as well. When I turned around, I saw cuts on his neck and his arms, and I felt something strange . . . a feeling of anger, but calmness too. I stared at my father . . . No, not my father, a monster. A demon to destroy. My anger rose, but someone’s hand wrapped around mine. CrowSound had started to hold my hand, his eyes staring into mine with a silent plea — not to kill them. In his eyes, I saw a reflection, and in that reflection, I saw another dragon standing over my shoulder. I turned to him, and he looked into my eyes, my hand still holding onto CrowSound’s. Aetherion’s entire army was stunned. It was Physeis, nature itself. He had the look of a true father in his eyes, and he seemed oddly familiar. “Hello, sweet Sunset. You have grown so much since I’ve last seen you.” Physeis said, his slow and graceful movement bringing me into a soft hug. The way he spoke . . . he couldn’t be . . . Physeis was my father. “Ah, you have figured it out.” He said, “I am indeed your father, young Sunset.” Author's Note: I can't quite put my finger on it, but something doesn't feel right about this chapter. I am currently still working on this, so his isn't the whole chapter. |
