Corine plans a setup for pirates. 234 words

Boxed Nappers

“They did it again.”

“Who did what?” asked Corine of her roommate Ellen.

“Porch Pirates took all the packages on our porch.”

“What? When?”

“I have no idea what time, but the boxes were Amazon and Temu.”

“Oooh, that! Don’t worry about them.”

“But they’re outright thieves. They need to be stopped!”

“They’ll be stopped all right when they try to open those packages.”

“What do you mean, Corine?”

“They’re dummy boxes. I got tired of losing expensive items to those nameless scallywags.”

“What did you do? Are you sure it’s legal?”

“I got the all clear from Johnny Law. They’re getting tired of it too.”

“Get ready for some fireworks, my friend,” Corine said as she stood at the living room picture window with her binoculars.

“What fireworks? It’s not Canada Day.”

“Yeah, but it just may be Independance Day from those land pirates!”

Beautiful light displays suddenly bloomed in the sky a few blocks away.

“Wow!”

When sirens began to sound, the two watched as squad cars converged on the center of the display.

“You lit’em up good!”

“Thanks sweetie, but it was nothing.” Corine assured Ellen modestly.

“I think we deserve dinner out for this coup. Your choice of place and my treat.”

“How about... Corine whispered in her roomie’s ear.

Ellen began to laugh helplessly.

“Sounds apropos, Circus Circus it is!” she said when she could talk again.
