Tommy and his mom survive the death of television 300 words

The End

Tommy sat glued to the set. The western was exciting. Suddenly, it was cut off.

“Mom, there’s something wrong with the TV!”

He watched as a number appeared on the screen and began to count down. By the time his mom came to see what was wrong, there was only a point of light in the middle of the screen.

“What did you do, Tommy?” his mom scolded.

“Nothing, I never touched anything!”

A mechanical voice began to emanate from the television.

“Well, television viewers, the technology of this antiquated device has been deemed of no more use to the world. Like cassette tapes, video tapes and other things that have gone the way of the dodo, it has been decided that television must be eliminated. Everyone head to the basement of your homes; for it is the end!”

Tommy and his mom headed to the basement just in case. Just as they got there, the was a loud, windy sucking noise, followed by an explosion. When they were sure it was safe, the pair of them ventured back up to the family room.

The television, as promised was gone. But so was the corner of the room where it had been, leaving a gaping hole. It had begun to rain, and water was pouring into the room. Tommy helped his mother tape up plastic sheeting to try and keep the worst out.

“I miss my television,” blubbered Tommy.

“Guess you’ll just have to read or play card and board games, until we can get you a computer or something,” his mom soothed.

“Can I still watch cowboy shows,” he asked.

“I’m sure they have them on the Web.”

“But the screens are so small...”

“You’ll be sitting closer to them, so the size won’t matter as much.”
