Personification: Poem written for The Poet's Place

I am a fly on the wall
O what I see and hear
they curse, swat, stare
they want to kill me.

My life span is very short
stress is my middle name
humans play many games
I know, I have eyes to see.

I deal with people, I deal with cats
I am not as discussing as a rat
occasionally they leave out food
fair game for flies, understood.

What's my purpose, you say?
I am here, I am sure to play
I cause bad language to spill
anger people who never think to kill.

I am a fly on the wall
the stories that I could tell
the secrets that I keep
are best left asleep.

If you don't want flies
maybe consider a spider
I understand they trap my kind
but they also have to dine.

I am that spider in the corner
guess what I had for lunch
no more pesty flies, just see
you'll be happy that it is me.
