a short poem about reality assumptions

Just Because

She won’t know.
Just because it’s raining and my face is wet.
That don’t mean I’m not crying too.

You won’t know.
Just because what I’m saying sounds true
That don’t mean I’m not lying to you.

Friends won’t know.
Just because I hang out in the dark.
That don’t mean I don’t cast a shadow.

She won’t know.
Just because I seem all together.
That don’t mean I’m not losing the battle.

I won’t know.
Just because I believe I’m sincere.
That don’t mean I see any clearer.

People won’t know.
Just because I work and I try.
That don’t mean I don’t feel inferior.

The man don’t know.
Just because I pay every day.
That don’t mean that this tax is okay.

God only knows.
Just because I pray every day.
That don’t mean I know the way.

Mom don’t know.
Just because she lights a candle with love.
That don’t mean I’ll rise above.

Dad don’t know.
Just because he wouldn’t and never did.
That don’t mean I don’t forgive.
