Gobbie always gets blamed. 300-word flash

Wasn’t Me

Gobbie never took the blame for anything. He always denied any part in anything. Everyone knew he lied all the time and assumed the worst of him. As a particularly hideous version of the goblin species, Gobbie got tired long ago of nobody believing him. In spite of that, he was always quick to say: “I didn’t do it.”

One chilly Halloween night, he decided to really do something for a change that he could be blamed for.
“If they are going to blame me anyway, I might as well do it!” he reasoned.
He began with sneaking up behind Fairyland trick or treaters and stealing candy out of their sacks. When his stomach couldn’t take anymore candy without being sick, Gobbie played other tricks.

He slimed paths so that folks would slip and slide. He thought they would hate it, but most were young ones who loved it. He made faces in the windows of houses to scare those inside. Everyone who even noticed him, just laughed.
Finally, he ran out of things to be blamed for and climbed his favorite tree to see the full moon and guess whether it really was made of green cheese.
“Sounds tasty,” he decided, wishing he could try it.
A witch who was passing the tree on her broom, read his thoughts and decided to grant his unspoken wish. She did a quick maneuver through the branches to pick him up on the end of her broom handle.
“Where are you taking me!” screamed Gobbie.
Without answering, she dropped him onto the moon as she passed in front of it. None the worse for the flight, the goblin began searching for cheese. He may be there still. Who is the Man in the Moon after all, perhaps he is Gobbie!
