The term 'Golden Years' has flipped its meaning |
I keep seeing anthems, hearing them sung, about life being simpler when we were young. In the fifties and sixties, we ran around free. Climbed every mountain and climbed every tree. We stayed out playing 'til streetlights alit and roamed 'round our neighborhoods on bikes a bit. Biggest worries were if the cookies'd run out or if our team would win or go down in a rout! We all knew the games, and we played by the rules-- no matter at home, or church, or at school. These days, people worry about so many things-- kids playing alone, the phone when it rings. They fret and they blather and they argue a LOT! For every thought, a response, for each good find a 'not.' No one seems happy, content in their life-- like they are all buried in harassment and strife. No more are folks allowed to just be, instead they are judged-- what happened to 'free.' Opinions have somehow become engraved facts and words have lost meanings like honor and tact. We, my hubby and I are old school, we still believe in that old 'golden' rule. The thoughts that we have that might not be 'PC' we keep to ourselves and just let people be. We don't need to embrace others' choices and roles, if they aren't hurting each other, each to their own holes! We giggle a lot, we laugh, we have fun, we go to bed early, we rise with the sun. But sometimes we think as life flies by so fast that our 'golden years' were back in the past! |
