One night in Stockton, California
in 1976, at the beginning
of the Russian-US detent period ,

Eloise, the Euclid house leader
and her housemates

Decided to go down
To the Stockton Port

To board the
Russian container ship
In the river.


Eddie, their friend
Had met a Russian sailor
In a bar,

who had invited them
To a party on the ship.

About six of them showed up
And they met the sailors
And they were having
an amazing time.

But the captain had second thoughts
And after serving them
Bulgarian champagne

Russian vodka shots
roasted almonds
potato on a stick


Announced

“Nyet, Party Over”

And they left
The boat.

Looking out
At the super moon
And a silver star
Over the Stockton River.
