Amazing

“We need to get to the bottom of this.”

They were kindergarteners, sitting in the front of the otherwise empty theater. It was bad enough they’d had a lecture from their teacher. They were, after all, mostly still five-year-olds.

Now, the school principal, Mr. Lester was scolding them. Jared raised his hand. The rest of the kids immediately shut their mouths. It was kind of like when you’re waiting for the movie and it suddenly starts. Jared was the movie.

They had only been in school a couple months but they all knew that Jared was the talker of all talkers! Not only did he talk, but he almost always talked the adults into a frenzy! This was his first go at the principal. Everyone was enthralled (even their teacher!)

“Yes?” said Principal Lester, looking right at Jared.

“Aren’t the trash cans outside for trash?”

“Of course, that’s not the point. The point is this class overflowed the trash cans to the point where trash was all over the place!”

“We did what we were told, pick up the trash and put it in the trash can.” Jared said.

“Much of that ‘trash’ was not trash, it was things that belonged to other students. They even had their names on them…”

“You do know we can’t read yet, don’t you?”

“Ah, yes, however…”

“We were told to pick up all the things that should not be in a play yard, so we did. We did exactly what we were told to do. Why are we in trouble?”

“Ah… yes you have a point. I will let your teacher talk to you.” He left completely confused.

Mrs. Jenkins got up. But what was in her mind was, that boy is going to be amazing one day.

And he was.
