Wrote it after seeing Saving Private Ryan
Purple Sky, Purple heart
These men were doomed as others
From the start
Never No Never Know Why
Look across an oily ocean
Over a deadly calm sea
Smell the smell of fresh gunpowder
Or comrades blood can see
From high above they look down
Like gods from high vantagepoints
Pummelling these men with such pain
As gods may do thee
Never No Never Know Why
These men they wish, try and hope
To themselves that these gods could disappear
Like those do in reality
Never No Never Know Why
Cease to exist
As gods should be
But these gods
Never No Never Know Why
Ants to the sugar
The lines follow and fall
Like lemmings to a death
Never No Never Know Why
Look inside the war machine
Fear, anxiety, confusion all these
Human feelings
Never No Never Know Why
They may have one cause more than a mission
There's something else they wish to prevent
A dreadful piece of paper
Which tells only of lament
A letter bare as stone
And as unreadable yet
Some accept this as their best bet
So prevent your loves ones from visiting your grave
Salute your commander dumbly
Set out to finish what you couldn't get done
Or never did start so humbly
Love the life you'll sadly regret
As it passes before your eyes
Look up at the mirror
As you catch the bullet then die
And forever spend what you believed was never yours
Passing the time
Counting the crosses
Or looking up at the sky
Through overused, flesh encrusted, dead to nature-as you are
Soil
And wonder
But you'll never know
Never Know Why
