Can you feel it? Can you heal it? Can you see it? Because we can all be it! Hello Everyone my name is Kirin , and I am grateful to be sharing in this great HOSA experience. I'm proud to be in the company of my nursing peers and other Allied Health colleagues. My speech today is based upon my adult life story and I am also proud to be sharing this with you. I would like to say right up front that I welcome today's theme, because I could feel it, I was healed and afterwards with all my heart I could see it...and now I am here. You see I am a 40 year old single mother of two boys, ages 10 and 12. And in my short life I have experienced quite a bit. I am a cancer survivor, so you understand why the theme this year for HOSA rings clear with my situation. The medical field today is so advanced yet continues to strive for newer and greater advancement for our future. Healing is a combined effort. Its a known fact that positive attitude is half the battle. In my own personal experience, I look back and realize that if my attitude had been anything but positive, my healing process would have been elongated. I knew early on in my treatments that my attitude enhanced my abilities. I needed to be in control for my children and for myself. I've learned through my trials and tribulations and I know my experiences will help me in a better understanding of my peers, co-workers, supervisors, patients, family and society all together. It took a while but eventually I could see it!! My life as a whole is so enriched. I am not saying that my cancer was a good thing but it sure was a wake up call. I now have a purpose in life and I strive to make a better life for myself and to achieve a career. Since October of 1997, I have changed my outlook on life all together. I have gone from a very stressful situation to a confidence level that is endless, because as I said before, I could see it. Now I have a goal! I never graduated from High School and I never thought of that as a bad thing, but my life wasn't headed anywhere. Since my healing, I realize that I can achieve my goals. I have never had a lot of confidence and so I never gave myself much of a chance. Well things are different these days. I have received a GED and with that my imagination has taken over. I feel my years of having medical care prompted me to choose a career in the medical field. And I feel my experiences will benefit everyone that I end up taking care of as an LPN. I have done everything necessary for the enrollment in the Practical Nursing Program at my Technical Education Center, and now I am half way through the program. So you see I know what I can be!. I wish to further my education once I graduate. I feel that my life has a purpose as does each and everyone's here! With HOSA we have all learned that team work is a most essential part of life, both at home and most especially in the work place. HOSA is a foundation for a better tomorrow. So you see, if we can feel it! We can heal it! And if we can see it! We definitely can be it. We as HOSA members can make an enormous difference in whatever field we choose to undertake. I think its wonderful how we can pool together in a combined effort to enrich our thoughts and skills in our medical professions. This reflects the fact that it is more than obvious that we can be it! Thank you everyone on behalf of HOSA and myself, may all your dreams come true.
