Past, present and future meet in this dreamy science fiction story
Alisza of the Future
chapter one
Alisza of my Dreams

I have been collecting quarters for nearly a month. An entire piggy bank is filled up so far. I'm not collecting them for myself. I am collecting them for Alisza.

Alisza is a relative of mine who has been visiting me in my dreams. She reminds me of my own fourteen year old daughter. I guess that's why I feel so comfortable with her, rather than scared out of my wits! The thought of someone invading a mind during sleep should seem like a nightmare, but this is nothing like that. I look forward to her visits with hopes of learning more about her and my future relatives.

The first time that I ever encountered Alisza was the night after our game against the Scorpions. I coach a softball team for my daughter's team, the Rockets. They usually win all of their games, but so do the Scorpions. We were nervously anticipating that game since the beginning of the season. I have plenty of admiration for the Rockets. They put one hundred and ten percent of their ability into that game against the Scorpions and certainly earned their triumphant win. We were all exhausted from the long day. That night, it felt so good to finally get into bed. As an added bonus, I remembered that I was using my new pillow. There is nothing more comforting to the senses than a fluffy new pillow. I felt pampered in luxury and so relaxed. I'm sure that it only took me ten minutes to fall asleep. That's when I first heard Alisza's voice.

"Start saving state quarters for me."
"Why? What do you want those for?"
"I just want them. That's all that you need to know."
"Well, why do I need to collect them for you?"
"Because you can. Sarah listen, please try to understand. In my time, I can't even get one. You can get all that you want. They are in abundance everywhere."
"OK. I guess I can get some for you, but who are you anyway?"
"My name is Alisza. It is difficult to explain things to you because you are asleep. I can only give you small amounts of information at each visit. For purposes of your understanding, think of me as your granddaughter."
"So, will I meet you someday in person?"
"No. I am four generations into the future."
"So, you are my granddaughter and then some. Is that right Alisza? Alisza? Tell me more Alisza. Why did you pick me? Alisza? Alisza?"
