Irony

Isn't it ironic
that the one thing
that could bring us all together
is that thing
which tears us apart?

Perhaps the first problems arose
when we tried to name you

         Allah, God, Great Spirit

and then claimed that our name
was better
more right
more TRUE
than any other name.

Perhaps the first problems arose
when we tried to worship you

         Fundamental, Charismatic, Meditation

and then claimed that our worship
was better
more right
more TRUE
than any other worship.

Perhaps the first problems arose
when we tried to box you in

         Church, Temple, Mosque

and then claimed that our box
was better
more right
more TRUE
than any other box.

Maybe the real truth is
that whenever we try
to name
or worship
or box
the One in whom
we live and move and have our being
we lose what we had
in the first place.
