In tribute to one of the great literary devices.
Hyperbole (pronounced high-PER-bowl-ee)
An intentional exaggeration not intended to be taken literally.

I place this poem for your review
To show you something very true:

Hyperbole might seem a lie,
But only to the untrained eye.

Exaggeration is the key
To recognize hyperbole.

An egg on sidewalks you can fry,
But that will happen when pigs fly.

I say I’m so hungry that I'd eat a horse,
But chances are good there won’t be a mane course.

When I’m so angry I could burst,
You really shouldn't fear the worst,

For this event will not transpire
Before the freezing of Hell’s fire.

Molasses in winter may not be your pace,
But you’ll likely be finishing last in a race.

While I may say I have a ton
Of homework, I can get it done.

And though my feet are killing me,
I won't be a fatality.

You see, hyperbole’s not meant to confuse,
But rather to bring home a point and amuse.

I hope this solves the mystery
About the word hyperbole.
