A poem I wrote to my grandchild Taylor Ann the day of her birth. |
To my grandchild Taylor Ann Emley ** Images For Use By Upgraded+ Only ** My young ones made me a Grandfather to day I can’t be that old, but that’s what they say You have a wonderful first name and your last names like mine Tonight we will toast you with a tall glass of wine This morning the birds were singing, the blue sky was so clear I hear you looked so soft and tender we all shed a tear Arriving this morning, you cried out with such glee You opened our hearts with that loving key I’m that old guy you’ll call Grandpa Royce The one with that strange sounding grumpy old voice You hold the future; your destiny is about to unfold The wonders and beauty you’ll have in life to behold If you ever get to read this and I hope that you do I want you to know how much our family loves you You’ll have cousins, aunts, uncles and grandmas galore Who will listen and hold you when life makes you bored I hope in the future you’ll cherish each one of our names Your arrival made us all happy as we lived out life’s games I envy the exciting journey you have just ahead And pray we will be good friends before I am dead I have little to say while from your mother you depart Welcome, now follow your dreams and listen to your heart You’ve joined our family and carry our name I predict the world will know you by your voice and your fame So grow up to be healthy, happy and strong When you hear the birds, know they’re singing your song. |
