The Spell _______________________________________________ You were looking for someone else In the mad rush A thousand important things to do And, I was a separate reality Outside your orbit. I did not exist. For some strange inexplicable reason which neither you nor I can fathom You looked at me. Brown eyes struck by lightning A soft intake of breath Dancing dilating pupils A shy smile on your parted lips which lit up your eyes Tousled hair lit by a sunray brushed by a sudden gust of warm breeze A sweat drop at the tip of your aquiline nose sparkling like a drop of diamond I don’t know why or how, Creation began then And I reeled from the force of the unseen thunderbolt Brighter than the energy released from a thousand atoms We did not hear the crowd Or feel the chaos and cacophony The world just let us be If only for a moment. We were held, you and I By a luminous beam of white light, A central gigantic beam With a few secondary trails Perhaps it was pink at the edge Perhaps there were sparks at the center I don’t know whether it was spinning or still But I saw it As certain as the sun rising by itself And time stood still It lit up the Deodar trees and made the marigolds and sunflowers smile. Around the great beam of white light were the spirits of ancestors Somehow, they were involved At least, I knew some of the souls They touched the beam and lit a fire We felt a strangeness and warmth inside And we were blessed Creation began once again that day Long before the union of our bodies As it had done in the dreamtime Long before the pea shaped cosmos came into being Long before the resonance of the big bang And the journey of previous universes. We held the future in our gaze In a gaze that we couldn’t unlock, not that we tried Frozen in the mellow warmth and fragrance of that magical, musical, inevitable moment. |
