On the end of idealism and beginning of reality.
I Believed
_________________________________________________

I believed in soaring higher
than the eagle in the sky
battling through pain and desire
Now, I wonder why
I even tried to fly
Beyond the mirage of the material sphere

I believed in laws
to balance the scales for all
with its limitations and all its flaws
Now, I examine a clause
Without so much as a pause
For the kill, win and thundering applause

I believed in equality
in all things and beings
Living in liberty and fraternity
Now, for a hundred reasons why
This is another lie
Just an ideal in dark reality

I believed in beauty
in the heart of all things and beings
Good taste the essence of creativity
Now, I see the crass and vulgar
Hard-sold in a silver salver
And lucre as the final reality

I believed in true friendship
with not an axe to grind
through joys, sorrows and relationships
Now, there’s a superficial hug
A smile and a calculated shrug
Behind a veil of jealousy

I used to live in an ideal world
where the wisdom of ages unfurled
Live with a sparkle in my eyes
Now, I wield the cold sword of history
Shattering glorious myths and mystery
Slicing through wings that tried to fly.
