THE MESSAGE

The family had gathered at the funeral home to pay their respects and say goodbye to my sister. We had always been so close; it was incredible to think that she was gone! I listened to whispers of my family members, who were trying in their own ways to understand why she took her own life.
Grief overcame me, and I got up and walked into the ladies room, not wanting to break down crying in front of the rest.

We all had to deal with it as best we could. In the ladies room, I wept bitterly. It seemed as if my tears would never end. Not only had I lost a sister, but I had lost a best friend.

There were three knocks on the door, and I thought that some of the family needed to use the bathroom. I dried my eyes, and went to the door.
Opening it, I was surprised to see no one was there. A deep feeling of peace came over me though, as if my sister was there, reassuring me that death is only the end of life as we know it.

All the family members were still seated in the 'viewing' room. I will always believe my sister came back to me. Strange? Yes. True? Yes.
No one else had come to knock on the door. When I went back in the room and looked down at my sister, I could almost see a little smile on her face.

Life happens.
