All Sweet Souls Must Drown

ALL SWEET SOULS MUST DROWN

A river forms at the ocean’s edge
I look at it and think to myself
Does this river go to the earth’s ledge?
Has it fallen from the mountain’s shelf?

And so I follow the river’s lane
As it passes into and out of the forest
As it cuts its mark across the plain
As it hits a wall and climbs to rest

There it slumbers a sleep so sound
I find it nested in the lake’s bed
I feel at peace with what I’ve found
New is born as my journey is dead
