She finally gets her chance...
Back in high school, Tyler was one of those guys who were always in the back of the class cracking jokes. I thought he was unbelievably funny but apparently, so did a lot of other girls. He never went for more than a week without having a girlfriend.

I did not just think he was funny, I also found him to be extremely attractive and sensitive to the people around him. In fact, I thought he was the most amazing guy in Elwood High School. Unfortunately, I was not the type of girl that Tyler was into. I was too smart and awkward.

I remember the only chance that I had to talk to him. We were waiting for the bus after school and Tyler got into and argument with one of his friends. He seemed angry enough to fight and they were really about to do so. I could not stand to watch a fight so I just ran up to Tyler and pleaded with him not to fight. I also could not stand to see him so angry, so I somehow managed to calm him down. My attempts to hold him back were also the only time I got to put my arms around Tyler during our four years at Elwood High.

I certainly felt closer to Tyler after that day, although we never actually became friends. At our graduation ceremony, I could not even catch a glimpse of him because, as usual, he was surrounded by friends. I thought I’d never see him again especially since we were going to different colleges.

I was wrong. During the spring break of my freshman year at Yale University, I went home to visit my parents back in New York. On my way to a friend’s house, I saw Tyler on the train. It seems that college had been very good to him because he looked better than ever and I complemented him on how good he looked, as I trembled inside. Surprisingly, he returned the complement.

We started talking and discovered that our birthdays were both within the same week, which was coming up. We decided to celebrate together so we went out on the day that was most appropriate and exchanged gifts. After that vacation, we sort of lost touch for a while but over the summer we got back together.

During that summer, I finally got the courage to tell Tyler how I had always felt about him. He was surprised because he thought that I just wanted to be friends. Since he wasn’t seeing anyone at the time, we decided to give it a chance. It didn’t work out the way I had dreamed but we are still very good friends. He calls me everyday and once in a while, I spend the weekend with him.
