Poem about the consequences of war.
Two Gardens
She was tending her garden
oh mother of mine
when off in the distance
she heard a low whine

A car crept up our driveway
so slowly - then stopped
then out stepped a soldier
and mother’s head dropped

She fell to her knees
as her whole world took pause
to learn I’d died in a battle
a true and just cause

But mom’s proud of her soldier
and she shares my love
of freedom and country
of God up above

The soldier has gone
as for mom you’ll now see
two gardens she tends
one’s hers - one’s for me
