I was recently lying on Glyffada beach near Athens and these thoughts..... |
I wish the world could lie on this beautiful beach: I think that this would be a very good way to teach it how to live in a way that truly appreciates beauty, instead of being governed only by a sense of duty. It’s imperative that the world learns to read the signs: no longer hesitates to befriend and also easily defines, sets boundaries that it will keep and also stay within. This way is to go forward, move away from mortal sin. This beach could teach the world to sing its lilting song: for without this sense of peace it is so easy to go wrong. The world could choose to learn so much in just one day, it could show us how to love one another, then turn and say Each of you may be different in colour, creed, or in belief; why on earth should that be a reason to cause anyone grief? The world could learn ways to live in honour and in trust; for one day we will all surely die, become as the very dust That joins with the golden sands on the shore of this beach. Oh so many things for us are there; well within our reach. We’ve just got to open our minds, allow ourselves to learn, just turn and watch delighted as all our old bridges we burn. Step back from the yawning abyss, step back from the brink, Let us not succumb to temptation; refrain; not let ourselves sink. Turn around, look at the sea, the sun and this beautiful beach And listen to its rhythms and the lessons it could teach. |
