A poem from 4am on a bad night. About growing up, I guess. |
Let's play a game of make-believe. We're right beneath the sky. We're all alone. Just you and I, Beneath summer's soft blue sky. Let's be fairies, and unicorns, and princesses too: Whatever we want, Me and you; See, we're kittens too. Let's play a game of make-believe, watch summer slowly die. With nobody else. Just you and I, Beneath our secret autumn sky. Let's pretend we're anything. Whatever we want to be. We're everything, You and me. We're everything we want to be. Let's play a game of make-believe, watch winter freeze the sky. Of course just us, Just you and I. As snowflakes fall from winter's sky. Let's pretend we didn't hear them. They said we've grown up fast. It's not true I promise you Let's pretend innocence can last. We can't play make-believe now. We've got to play with books. We've got to play with makeup, To care about our looks. We've got to go to parties And start to notice boys; We're not allowed, any more, To use sticks and stones as toys. Don't you feel we're missing something? It used to be Just you and me Beneath the changing sky. Let's play a game of make-believe. Your heart's about to die. Forget that boy. Just you and I: Let's find ourselves the sky. |
