One of my favorites. . . Some thoughts on the State of Affairs. . .
If I had a soapbox, I would first speak to all the little girls who believe in charming princes and big, bad wolves. And I would warn them that danger and safety can lie in both. Princes may be dangerous. Wolves may be safe. And sometimes princes and wolves are one and the same.

If I had a soapbox, I would then speak to all the little boys who believe in heroic rescues of damsels in distress. And I would tell them that damsels do not always need to be rescued. And that they are perfectly capable of climbing down their own towers.

If I had a soapbox, I would speak to all the little girls who want to be beautiful princesses. And I would warn them that beauty fades, but character remains.

If I had a soapbox, I would speak to all the little boys who want to find themselves a beautiful princess. And I would tell them that any princess worth having would not be with a prince like that.

But I do not have a soapbox. So I cannot speak to all the little children.

But I can make a wish for them.

And if I had one wish for the little boys and girls it would be that they realize these things long before I did.

And if they do, may they find themselves a soapbox.
