This is written for a close friend of mine who is divorcing after 23 years of marriage. |
I wanted you to show that I mattered, To make a statement by action; And where were you? You were found wanting! I needed you to listen to my needs, To care enough to put me first; And where were you? You were found unwilling! I pleaded with you to understand, To share with me my priority; And where were you? You were found without compassion! I screamed at you to notice my plight, To hear and answer my desperation; And where were you? You were found unyielding! I longed for you to put love before duty, To be generous voluntarily; And where were you? You were found impotent! You have: Destroyed my optimism and left me frantic, Crucified my love and left me without direction, Nailed my hopes and left me despairing, Demoted my significance and left me powerless, Refused my request and left me deprived, Devalued my integrity and left me confused, Ignored my reasoning and left me isolated, Dismissed my love and left me fearful, Disregarded my feelings and left me angry, Denied ability to change and left me frustrated, Betrayed my beliefs and left me doubting, I find you guilty. |
