Tears and Rain

Every time
I think of this
My heart begins to ache.
To know that I
have a friend
Whose hand, I cannot take.

So instead,
I wrote this poem
In hopes to ease her pain,
And perhaps
To help her know
That tears are much like rain.

For even though
When clouds of rain
Hide the shining sun,
And even though
The tears of pain
Flow on and on,

Always know
The sun still shines
Behind the skies so bleak.
And tears are meant
To strengthen the soul,
And mend A heart that's weak.
