Your parents gave you a name when you were born. They bought a book of names containing thousands of names with their meaning and background. Honestly it went from A to Z in English and in almost as many other languages too. Our choice of names for our children was not easy. There were grandparents, famous uncles and aunts that we thought would be honored if our kids would be named after them. They too used a book, it was bigger and had a leather cover. It's not read as often as it should be. The names in that book had more meaning and substance than could be contained in a paper back of names. If people would live their lives according to their name, what would such a child's life turn into? When my father introduced me to his associates and relatives, he would include the words, "My name sake." It made me proud to named after the man I honored and held in highest esteem. On the other hand, my name apparently has roots from the old country. There lived an inventor who's name was Rudolph Diesel. Little did my father know that this invention would have a degree of interest in his son's future. Isn't it reassuring that our names gives us value, respect and historical significance. I prefer a name to a number or something from the ocean. I've read it in a big book that it written in heaven. There must be meaning in a name if it's written in a book like that." Author: R.
