In life or death, in happiness or in tears, to a church we go |
A lovely Sunday evening she said she was going for a walk He was busy with his friends & he didn't have time to talk About to get married so it didn't matter, anyway They had their whole life ahead so he let her go on her way without a kiss he'd later regret missing She took her usual route in the heavily wooded forest preserve She was listening to her music so she didn't see him coming or hear him swerve The drunk had a few too many the bartender had thrown him out He hit the road angrily taking the forest preserve route She flew in the air then landed on the hood Blood pouring everywhere they could try to save her but it would do no good Twisted & torn was her stomach where she had hit the car Intestines spilling through her skin pool of blood spreading far An endless snake with no head crawled from within her stomach’s nest On the hood of drunk’s car is where the snake came to rest The car had been red before a real beauty, little red corvette But her spilling, fading life added a dimension he wouldn't forget Her fiance was called to the scene he rushed, contorted, sobbing, crying Red mixing with green like Christmas but this was no gift she tried to speak, but she was too busy dying he leaned closer to try to get the drift Her mouth open with words unspoken eyes glazed over, body broken Nest of pink & purple snakes resting in a bloody lake He fell, howling to the sky with pain grasping the snakes with no shame Blood mixing with mud from the preserve a death from a single thud, quite undeserved An officer quietly hunched over at the sight of the man swimming in bloody intestines in the night It was just a week ago they had rehearsal for the wedding Now again to the church they would go One with head hung low & one in bedding. |
