Summary of this Book...
...about how to write horror successfully. This anthology will help you to learn from some of the most popular writers in the field as they share their wisdom on developing horror.

There are 39 articles on the art and craft of writing to frighten, as well as on how to publish your work.

The HWA, or Horrow Writers Association, is the most respected organization in the genre, but it wasn't always so. The forward of the book explains how the HWA came to be.
This type of Book is good for...
Those who are interested in writing Horror, Dark Fantasy, or Thrillers will find this book helpful. I've re-read it several times and always find something new.
I especially liked...
The way the book's contributors "talked" to the reader as though we were respected peers. It was informative without being condenscending. I enjoyed the section on Horror Crafting, with its information on plot, characters, and mood.

I also liked the listing of recommended reads.
I didn't like...
I wanted the small biographical sections to be longer. I also wished there had been more quotes on writing.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
...to do some writing, and it helped reinforce my goal to become a good horror writer.
This Book made me feel...
...like I'm not alone in my sometimes-skewed view of the world. It's a great book for writers of dark fantasy.
The author of this Book...
The editor is Mort Castle, who wrote nine horror novels. The contributors include:

Harlan Ellison --on horror writing
Nancy Holder --plotting short stories
Jill M. Morgan --writing horror for kids
Stephen King --writing a serial novel (The Green Mile)
David Morrell --writing realistic dialogue
Jay R. Bonansinga --action and pace

and
Robert Weinberg --created a list of must-read books for horror writers.
I recommend this Book because...
I feel I learned a lot from this book. It was also fun to read what masters of the horror novel have to say about their craft. Reading it made me feel like an insider of the HWA.

This book is inspirational as well as practical.
I don't recommend this Book because...
If you don't care for the horror/dark fantasy genre, then this book wouldn't be for you.
Further Comments...
The back cover says:

Here you have it all--guidance on ideas, research, and reading, advice for creating the elements of story, and more.

Don't let fear of the unknown keep your writing in the dark. Use Writing Horror to tear open the secrets of this exciting realm.
