This novel is Dorothea Benton Frank's latest. She writes one about every summer. This one is about a woman who is still married after 30 years, but her husband is an inconsiderate boob and her kids are pretty lazy and sponge off their parents. They have a cute grandaughter. On a golf trip to Scotland the wife (Les)falls in a hole and the husband virtually ignores her and continues to prance about playing golf while she is in hospital.

All of their men friends have married younger (30 or younger) women. One of those couples (man in 60's, woman in 30's) is on the trip to Scotland.

anyone who enjoys enhancement of a worn out sterotype. The second wife is not always a monster and the first wife is rarely a saint. Sometimes it is the wife who plays around and acts nasty.

Les's relationship with her brother Harlan. He is gay and lives in Charleston and is quite helpful and witty. I would like to see more of him.

like Ms. Frank slapped together a story and then forced an ending. This wasn't one of her best.

writes in a witty and entertaining manner. Her observations are cutting and usually spot on. I don't remember her ever dealing with stereotypical behavior like this, though. She sort of writes in a predictable way here.

it was a disappointment after Porch Lights, her great novel that came out last year. That really was her best and this is among her least impressive efforts, I am sorry to say.
