Summary of this Book...
A beautiful young slave is bought and treated special because she's an investment. Slave Hekat thinks her owner treats her nice because she's important, she feels betrayed when he tells her she's not special, just expensive. She scars herself and runs away to join the Emperor's army. She exacts revenge on her buyers and gains the rulers trust enough to become his queen.
This type of Book is good for...
Anyone who enjoys historical fantasy.
I especially liked... | ||
I was equally appalled and intrigued by Hekat, slave to NO man. The drive and desire to survive really resonated with me. I agree she worships a mad 'god' but I can understand her devotion and perceived conceptions.
I didn't like... | ||
Can't think of anything, granted it's been a while, but being the first book in the series everything was necessary and pertinent to the story line.
When I finished reading this Book I wanted to...
I struggle with some of Hekat's issues myself, and at the end of the day I can really appreciate her personality. I enjoy knowing what dangers I may face on my journey through life, whether we admit it or not.
This Book made me feel...
We all are capable of unspeakable evil, given the right environment and triggers.
The author of this Book...
Is pretty awesome, I thoroughly enjoy Karen Miller's work, though she can be overly wordy at times.
I recommend this Book because...
I think this is one of the most amazing books I've ever read for the simple fact that it delves deep deep DEEP into the recesses of its' characters minds...I think so many people 'hated' this book and/or gave it low ratings because most people don't like to be confronted with the darkest parts of humanity.
I don't recommend this Book because...
It's not for everyone, we all develop differently and find entertainment in different ways/fashions. While I believe everyone can learn something (about themselves and fellow peers) from this story, it may not be the proper time for you.
