Summary of this DVD... | ||
This is the story of Ernest Hemingway and his 3rd wife (of 4), Martha Gelhorn. Gelhorn was a famous war correspondent and they met during the Spanish Civil War in the 1930's. Theirs was a tumultuous relationship and it ended quickly and abruptly when Ms. Gelhorn wouldn't quit being a War Correspondent during World War II. Nicole Kidman is Gelhorn and Clive Owen is Hemingway.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who wants to learn a little more about the relationship.
I especially liked... | ||
Kidman as Gelhorn. I was surprised that I liked her portrayal.
I didn't like... | ||
the portrayal of Hemingway as an abuser. I have read a lot about the man and I never saw anything about him abusing anyone physically other than himself. I didn't like the way the film sloughed off the end of Hemingway's life.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
is pretty good although I felt like Owen was too brutal as Hemingway. I have never seen anything to indicate that he beat up any of his wives. He cheated on them, but he didn't (to my knowledge) physically abuse.
I recommend this DVD because...
it was mildly entertaining. I didn't stop watching - I watched it beginning to end.
