Summary of this Book...
A podiatrist leaves his newborn baby and wife at home to go to war in Afghanistan. The first part of the book deals in graphic detail with the war there and the involvement of the Mike in it. Mike is the main character from whose point of view this book is written. While Mike is there, his wife dies as the result of a kitchen accident. When Mike returns back, he has to deal with his own medical condition as he has a drug problem and his baby's rejection of him. Plus, he tries to solve the mystery of his wife's last days after reading the autopsy report. The question is: Did his wife take to drinking while he was away? Moreover, he is in danger of losing his medical practice. Then he makes the decision of returning to Afghanistan. If he will be able to set his life straight and regain his daughter when he gets back for good is up to the reader to find out.

As much as I dislike to read war action in anything, the only redeeming quality of this book is in the shocking descriptions of the battles and war scenes.

As a character, I wanted to root for Mike, but couldn't. Not only him, but I found none of the characters to be drawn well enough in this story.

Although this book's writer has written and published twenty novels and has other pieces to her credit, I was disappointed with this book.
This Book made me feel...
cheated.
The author of this Book...
Lisa Scottoline is an experienced writer with twenty novels to her credit. Some of those are: Come Home, Mistaken Identity, Running from the Law, Rough Justice.
I don't recommend this Book because...
I didn't think the author developed a believable time frame for the action in the plot or a likable enough main character.
