Summary of this DVD... | ||
This movie is part of my effort to see all of Jean Harlow's work. This movie was made after Red Dust and is another in the many pairings of Harlow with Gable. Harlow plays Ruby, a small time con artist. She meets Eddie (Gable) when he (also a small time con) bursts into her apt. while she's in the bathtub. They trade a lot of insults and wisecracks as they fall for each other. Eddie commits a crime and Ruby gets blame for it, so she has to go to the women's prison, which is hilarious. The biggest reason to watch this is to watch Jean Harlow in her prime, which didn't last very long. She was dead at the age of 26 of natural causes. In this movie she is luminous and when she is on screen, even Gable isn't the center of attention anymore. I enjoyed it - it wasn't a great plot, but it had it's moments. The wise cracks amused me tremendously.
This type of DVD is good for...
anyone who enjoys Harlow and her screwball comedies.
I especially liked... | ||
Jean Harlow and Stuart Erwin together. He was a nice surprise.
When I finished viewing this DVD I wanted to...
watch the rest of the Jean Harlow movies that I haven't seen so far. I think I've seen most of them.
I recommend this DVD because...
if you like old screwball comedies, you will probably enjoy this one. I liked it when Jean Harlow said she was the "Queen of Sheba." lol
Further Comments... | ||
This movie was made around 1933 so it is an early one of both Gable and Harlow - Gable doesn't have his moustache yet and without it, he looks pretty goofy at times.
