Summary of this DVD... | ||
Matthew McConaughey plays an AIDS patient, who is diagnosed and predicted to die within a month in the mid 1980's. He discovers he can get drugs to treat AIDS that are not approved by the FDA. He goes to Mexico and other foreign countries to get them and sets up a business he calls the Dallas Buyers Club to help other AIDS patients. He is homophobic, so he is an unlikely one to deal with AIDS sufferers, but he soon learns a lot about compassion from a cross dressing gay fellow named Rayon, played brilliantly by Jared Leto. They are partners in the business that operates first out of a Motel. Members pay 400$ a month to join the Dallas Buyers Club. This is a disturbing movie with great performances. This movie is based on a true story.
I especially liked... | ||
Jared Leto and of course, Matthew McConaughey as Ronnie Woodruff. Their performances are brilliant and they deserve their Oscars. I also enjoyed Jennifer Garner as a doctor who tries to help him. Usually I don't like Jennifer Garner because she uses her lips being pursed (maybe by botox, I'm not sure) as her acting in quite a few roles. But here, she seems more natural and that makes her acting better when she isn't preening and posturing.
I didn't like... | ||
I didn't like the drug usage portrayed and this almost caused me to turn off the DVD and send it back. But, we hung in there, Mr. hooves and I, and in the end, we felt like it was a good movie and we were rooting for Mr. Woodruff and all he was able to accomplish. He did his homework and knew what he wanted to do, which was survive, right from the get-go.
This DVD made me feel...
like I dislike the medical profession intensely when they sell out to Big Pharma and sell out the dying people in the process. THe Government (FDA) is right there with their lack of compassion and understanding.
The cast of this DVD... | ||
The cast is outstanding.
I recommend this DVD because...
it teaches the lesson of how lame and despicable the government and the medical professions can be. McConaughey's performance is so out of the park fantastic, that in the end I was rooting for him in his mission. Jared Leto is amazing, too, as I already indicated. Wow, what performances!
